Yo Yo Hobo's

Origin Story

Yo Yo Hobo became one hot summers day, at Pt. Roadknight beach, near Anglesea, on Victoria's Surfcoast.

A stack of old vinyl LP's and 45's was left on the back seat of a 1966 Holden HR 'Premier' sedan. Any one who's sat in an old car on a hot day will tell you it can get bloomin' hot!! Well, the records melted into a mess of black, viscous liquid.

As night fell, the Northerly wind blew, and the surf crashed, something strange happened. A figure began to emerge from the liquid and rose up in to a new form, a human form. This being would be named by a local man, strangely, with flashing christmas tree lights covering him, walking a dog, that passed by and shouted "....YO YO HOBO!......".

A legend was born.

Yo Yo travelled the world always close to their musical roots, on the periphery of the music industry and popular culture, but always influential......Here are some of Yo Yo's stories...

"I have been asked where I first started out in the music recording industry. Well it was when I was a dustman, working at a box factory near the Beatles' Abbey Road studios. One day while the band was doing a session for the White album, I was emptying some bins in the alley behind the studio, and a dump truck drove over my toes.... Anyway, a long story short, you can hear me wailing in the background of 'Revolution 9' while George Martin administers me first aid!...

That's where it all started." - Yo Yo Hobo

"Well, if it wasn't for me, Blur's Parklife would've been completely different.

You see, ...in the film Quadrophenia, With all the Who music in'it, the main Mod, played by Sting, used my scooter. The film, being shot in Brighton, was where we used to go on the weekends. One of the producers ,Pete Townshend, from the Who, knew me, as Keith Moon had borrowed a drum kit off me once and smashed it!..., saw my scooter and said they would like to use it. I got to be on set sometimes.

Well, being in the industry a bit, I would see Damon Albarn and the boys around. Blur being fans of the Mod movement wanted to pay homage to the famous movie by using one of the actors in a song,... long story short, Damon wanted Sting in the song. I told him Sting was a dick, and that Phil Daniels is a much better choice.... being a real Cockney and all." - Yo Yo Hobo

"People have asked me how I know Vinnie Jones, Well, I met 'im on the set of Snatch.. you see. I had lucked into a role in, said film, playing the rear end of a Pikies horse... Me and Vinnie just hit it off and we've been mates ever since... as for that Brad Pitt, well... I've never hear from him, ...not ever." - Yo Yo Hobo
